Yajaira RodriguezTelling us a little about herself, Yajaira states: “To keep things simple, I’m still in the process of figuring out who I want to be. I’m sort of in a pre-midlife crisis, but that’s okay (haha). All I know is that I love the beach and getting to know new people because it makes me feel a little less alone when others can relate to me or vice versa. This has definitely helped me gain a more positive outlook on life. I’ve been able to grow so much in just the past semester that I can’t wait to see what else I’m capable of. So in summary, I’m really loving life right now.”

“I’m not lying when I say my whole life has tested my resiliency, but like I mentioned before talking to others who I could relate to is really what got me to where I am today. I‘ve experienced a single parent household that maybe didn’t give me the best life imaginable, but I definitely got the best life possible. I moved around a lot and at one point was sharing a small bedroom with my mom in her friend’s house. My resiliency definitely roots from my mom. She did whatever she could, like taking on three jobs, to make sure we had a place to stay and food to eat. Growing up was tough, but nothing was worth keeping me away from becoming a positive and successful person.”

Yajaira’s favorite quote is: “I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it” – Maya Angelou
