This month, our blog has been written by Janet Stake, Director, NSHE GEAR UP Programming & Outreach. We asked her to tell us about her Top 5 Reasons to Love Fall.
My Top Five Reasons to Love Fall
There’s just something about fall that makes everything feel a little cozier. The days get shorter, the air gets crisper, and suddenly we’re ready to slow down, settle in, and enjoy all the little things that make the season special. Here are my favorite reasons to love fall.
- The cooler temperatures
After months of heat (you know what I’m talking about Las Vegas!), there’s something wonderful about stepping outside and being perfectly comfortable. Fall brings cooler temperatures and that unmistakable crispness to the evening air. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to open the windows, take a walk, and breathe a little deeper.
- The changing leaves
If you are lucky to live where there are beautiful trees, one of fall’s greatest gifts is the colorful transformation happening all around us. Green leaves turn brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, and gold, creating a colorful show that makes even an ordinary drive or walk feel special. It’s nature’s reminder to pause and appreciate the moment. If you don’t live where there are a lot of trees that change color, a great getaway trip is going somewhere to see them!
- Pumpkin-spiced everything
Fall wouldn’t be fall without the return of pumpkin spice! Everything, and I do mean everything, turns to pumpkin, from coffee and baked treats to one of my seasonal favorites, pumpkin spice scented candles. There’s no shortage of ways to bring those warm, comforting scents into our homes. I like to light a candle, grab a blanket, and settle in to read a book or binge watch a favorite show.
- Sweaters and boots
Fall fashion might just be the coziest fashion. It’s time to pull out those favorite sweaters, slip into a pair of boots, and embrace layers. There’s something comforting about wrapping up in a soft sweater on a cool morning. I actually enjoy swapping out my summer clothes for my fall wardrobe.
- Football season
Fall and football just belong together. We are a big football family and whether we are watching from the stadium, gathering with friends and family, or cheering from the comfort of our own couch, football season brings people together without needing a special occasion. If you are not into football, there are lots of other options that can bring a group of friends, family, or rivals together for some fun.
Fall has a way of making the ordinary feel special. Cooler days, the wonder of nature, soft, cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice, and football—what’s not to love? Fall is the time to slow down, get comfortable, and enjoy! The craziness of the holidays will be here before we know it!
