My name is Morgan Fullmer and I am the First Year College Advisor for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I am a Las Vegas native who has recently returned from living in Hawaii for ten years. At seventeen, I moved from Las Vegas to Hawaii, for college and received my Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I returned to Las Vegas to pursue my Masters of Education at UNLV two years ago. One of my favorite things about my job is working with prospective students and sharing all of the great opportunities that UNLV and GEAR UP have to offer.
Many people use November as a time to reflect on things that we are thankful for, myself included. When I think of the things that I am most thankful for, my opportunity to attend college and pursue my degree is at the top of my list. It is important to get into the habit of making conscious decisions that will help you to be successful in college while you are still in high school and even middle school. One thing that I encourage students to do is to work hard in all of your classes so that once you get into high school, you are prepared to take the ACT/SAT. Taking the ACT/SAT not only helps you to get into the college of your choice, but once in college it helps you to place into various classes so that you may obtain your degree in a shorter amount of time. I also encourage students to get involved in programs that help students to be prepared for college, like those that GEAR UP offers. Applying for college can seem like a daunting task and the staff at GEAR UP want to help students to make going to college a fun and enriching experience!
