This month, our blog was written by First Year College Advisor from Western Nevada College (WNC), Tawnie D’Angelo. Tawnie also wanted to participate in our new format of telling us about her “Top 5”! We asked Tawnie for her Top 5 Moments that she enjoyed most with the GEAR UP Team and/or GEAR UP students. We asked her to tell us about those moments and why they are in your Top 5. Read what she had to say below.
- Recently seeing two GEAR UP students from Mineral County High School graduate with their associate degrees from WNC. They got a head start on their degrees by working hard in high school by taking dual enrollment courses. They both have plans to continue their education and enter the workforce in high demand fields.
- A past GEAR UP student (2018 cohort) recently reached out for advice on their next career steps. It made me happy that they knew they could still come to me for help!
- GEAR UP West 2021 in Billings, Montana. This felt like true bonding time for the team! The conference was held in the mountain lodge style hotel where we were able to get together afterwards to eat and just chat around the fire. It was nice to connect with everyone!
- The ongoing opportunities that GU provides to grow professionally, while supporting students to do the same!
- Knowing my GU colleagues are always there if I need anything, personally or professionally.
