UNLV hosted the first STEM Education Meet on Friday, February 10, 2023. We were excited to see educators from across Southern Nevada join in to learn about UNLV’s STEM initiatives and how they support K-16 students.

The day featured two fantastic keynote speakers. Dr. Okhee Lee from New York University, who spoke on building justice-centered STEM education with multilingual learners in order to address modern challenges, like the COVID-19 pandemic and environmental pollution, from kindergarten through high school. The second speaker, Dr. Robert Rippee, is the Executive Director of UNLV’s Black Fire Innovation Hub and the UNLV Incubator (for startup businesses). Black Fire and the UNLV incubator are building grounds for some of the country’s most exciting and disruptive innovations in hospitality, gaming, and entertainment.

The conference also focused on our growing selection of STEAM programs for the community! UNLV GEAR UP ASPIRE received recognition for our work with CCSD students and we’re excited to build our cohorts this summer. There are many opportunities for students to have fun, learn, and develop their STEM skills over the summer! Check out the Young Rebels website at UNLV.edu/youngrebels for more information. Summer camp registrations are opening now, so it’s a good idea to secure your spot early!
